A CHOSEN VESSELL:
THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF THE APOSTLE PAUL
Author: John Martin
Performed by Alan Shore
[Audio/Video on DVD media.] This engaging play presents Rabbi Saul (Apostle Paul) in his prison cell, looking back on his life in perspective. Alan Shore states his purpose of this drama as "to enrich the faith and understanding of those who are already a part of the fellowship of faith in Jesus the Messiah," and "to equip and encourage believers to bring the Gospel 'to the Jew first and to the Gentile'" (Romans 1:16).
Of all the followers of Jesus (Yeshua), Saul was the one who was the least likely follower of all. Although well-educated and in a position of authority within the Jewish community of first-century Israel, Saul started out actively persecuting Jewish believers in the Messiah. As we sit for an hour with this fascinating figure before us, we learn of the series of events that eventually led him to make a dramatic turn-around in his beliefs. Saul then became as passionate in following Messiah as he had been in opposing Him.
Saul shares with the audience his faith journey that led him from his personal Damascus Road encounter with Yeshua, through his years of discipleship, to his calling to spread the Good News of Messiah. Saul recounts Paul's two major journeys as well as the events leading up to his final imprisonment. We find that Saul, as a believer, found himself persecuted on all sides for his convictions. Whether called before the Romans or before the religious authorities, he used these opportunities to share his faith.
Alan Shore states that "the final moments of A Chosen Vessel depict the Apostle Paul as a man at peace with his destiny, expectantly awaiting the reward for which he had striven so long. Also revealed are the two most prominent aspects of his character and personality: his deeply grounded faith in the love and grace of the Lord whom he had served so well, and his heart for his own Jewish people, whom he had never ceased to pray for and to cherish."
The DVD also includes a personal interview with the actor of this one-man play in which he explains his motivation for investing himself in the presentation. More information about Alan Shore can be found by visiting his website at www.achosenvessell.com.
